Paintball Tanks - How to improve your gun's accuracy!
Paintball tanks can hold either CO2 or nitrogen to power your gun. There are pros and cons of using each type of air supply, and which type of paintball tank you choose depends on several factors. Paintball CO2 tanks hold carbon dioxide in its liquid form, which then expands to gas to create the pressure needed to fire paintballs at rapid speeds. CO2 is easy and inexpensive to buy, so this is the preferred option for many paintballers. However, because the expansion of carbon dioxide can be irregular, this can cause problems.
If liquid CO2 escapes from the tank before becoming a gas it can be harmful to paint ball gun parts, such as o-rings made from plastic or rubber. It can also cause paintball markers to freeze up for several seconds, which isn't a good thing to happen during games. A lot of paintballers put cheap anti siphon valves in their tanks to prevent this. Expansion chambers and regulators are more expensive solutions to stabilize air pressure. If looking at paintball gun packages that include air tanks, this is something to bear in mind.
Nitro or compressed air is an alternative to CO2 that's favored by many dedicated paintballers who play competitively. Nitrogen is stored in tanks in gas form, so there should be constant air pressure and no problems with guns freezing up if the tank has been overfilled. Compressed air tanks tend to cost more than CO2 systems, and nitro is not so readily available. If you plan to go paintballing regularly and want to buy your own gear, online stores can be good places to find paintball supplies at great prices and get an idea of the range of products on offer.
