The idea of paintballing originated in the early 1970s, when farmers began using industrial paintguns to mark livestock and trees. About a decade later a small group of friends came up with the idea of firing paintballs at each other for fun! And so the first paintball games were played. In those days, paint balling wasn't widely known about, so only a few people at a time would play a game. Individual paintballers played against each other, as there weren't the numbers to make up teams.

Paintballing has evolved tremendously since those early days of playing the sport in the woods. Organized commercial paint ball fields have been set up and the game has grown massively in popularity. Many people now play on a regular basis and it's become common for large groups or teams to play scenario paintball together over a full 24 hours. All sorts of special gear has been invented for both safety and performance, such as paintball harnesses and masks, as well as many types of markers.

With the growth of the internet, all kinds of paintballing gear is now sold through online stores, often at discount prices. From cheap paintball barrels for upgrades, to high end tournament level guns, the internet can be a great place to buy equipment for paint ball games. Gun packages can be one way for beginners to get all the basic stuff they need in one go, which can help them save money. Or you can hire equipment from the paintball field each time you play a game. Recreational paint balling is a fast paced, action packed sport that is a huge amount of fun!
